On Monday 8 of our young athletes headed to the Mid Cornwall Athletics Festival. The children enjoyed an introduction to many track and field related activities. They tested their new skills out in shot putt, javelin, long jump, hurdles, speed bounce etc… I was very impressed at the concentration and enthusiasm each child displayed. It was lovely to see them encouraging each other and trying their best. Well done to the team: Caitlin, Lauren, Joey, Connor, Riley, Luca and Ernie. Many thanks to the parents for transporting and supporting the children.
On Wednesday the Mid Cornwall Cross County Series began. Nineteen of our athletes headed down the hill to Par Track. The children said they felt nervous and excited all at the same time. These cross country events are a spectacle to behold as children from 28 schools descend on the fields at Par. With over 100 children in each race, just to stand on the busy start line waiting for the start gun takes confidence and courage. Our amazing children represented the school fantastically as they ran their best, supported their friends and listened to instructions. There were some amazing top 20 finishes with Tom 4th, George 9th, Harry 15th, Jake 13th, Lilly 20th and Theo 20th. Cross Country is one of those sports that leaves you with a sense of achievement and as the team walked back up the hill all the nervousness had evaporated and the children said they felt proud of themselves and they were busy discussing their tactics and race plans to make improvements in the next race.
What a great team we have! Well done to Jake, Aaron, Tyler, Theo, Tom, James, Izzy, Lilly, Mollie, David, George, Harry, Emily, Roxanne, Freya H, Maisie, Frankie, Bethany and Erin.
